Chelladurai restrained from TNHA activities

CHENNAI: The Madras HC has restrained A Chelladurai Abdulla, who claimed himself as the honorary secretary of the (TNHA), from interfering with the affairs of the TNHA.

Justice PR Shivakumar granted the injunction for two weeks while passing interim orders on the original applications arising out of a civil suit from K Jothi Kumaran, who also claimed himself as the honorary secretary of the association, to restrain Abdulla from making any communication under the name of the association in any manner and in any capacity with the Sports Development Authorities of the governments at the State and the Centre and the Indian Hockey Federation.

According to Kumaran, Aaj Tak TV channel, under the instigation of certain vested interests, telecast a sting operation in April 2008, maligning him as if he had received money to help a player to get selected to represent India in the International Tournaments.

He said that the moneygivers desired to organise international tournaments for 10 years and to meet the initial expenses of the promoter — Sunshine Builders and Promoters — designated by the Indian Hockey Federation, gave Rs. 2 lakh as initial payment. The Aaj Tak had also later admitted that the money was sought to be given under the pretext of organising tournaments. Since the attempt exposed the willfull intention of character-assassination and caused damage to his fair image in public and government, Kumaran instituted a civil suit.
