The livewire Australian forward burst onto the international scene in 2003.
Grant Schubert, born on August 1, 1980, made his debut in a friendly against Germany and then scintillated at the Champions Trophy in Amstelveen shortly later scoring nine goals in six matches to help his team finish second to the hosts the Netherlands.
It brought him the FIH Rising Stars award for that year.
Schubert, plagued by injuries, won Olympic gold at Athens 2004 and a bronze at Beijing 2008.
The South Australian picked up another gold medal at the 2010 New Delhi World Cup.
Schubert played club hockey for Kampong and Klein Zwitserland in the Netherlands.
