FIH Player of the Year in 2013 and Rising Star in 2009, Tobias Hauke of Germany exudes discipline and commitment on and off the hockey pitch.
He had to juggle duty as a defender par excellence for his country on the hockey pitch with a job for Bundesliga club HSV, often flying to his football-related job straight from training.
Hauke finally quit the HSV job and stuck with hockey and has collected 301 caps for his country after debuting in 2005.
Looking back he may well find it worth it. Two Olympic gold medals (Beijing 2008 and London 2012), a bronze (2016 Rio) and a World Cup silver (New Delhi 2010) adorn his showcase.
Born on September 11, 1987 in Hamburg, Hauke plays for Harvestehude in the German league and has had a stint in the Hockey India League, playing for UP Wizards.
