Thank You Mr. Arumugam.
I had the privilege of witnessing the Aga Khan Hockey Tournament finals in the year 1968, played between Western Railway and Mohun Bagan
It was conducted on a double leg basis.
Mohun Bagan led by a Goal till the dying minutes.
Gurbux Singh equalised almost on the call of full-time.
Western Railway boasted of Balbir Singh Grewal
(Zero angled goal against Pakistan at the Asian Games in 1966), his Brother Gurbux. Puran Singh,
Karim,, Babu Nimal, Alexander, Joe Antic, Naqvi Lawrie Patel and Satinder Singh Walia
Mohun Bagan matched them with their flamboyant Goal Keeper, Mukerhea,
Gurbux Singh (bespectacled and India Hockey Captain at the Mexico Olympics, 1968,
Dr. Vece Paes, Imam ur Rehman his brother Ikram,
Deane and Jennings.
Hockey, was an art form in those days.
Thank You very much, Arumugam Sir
