NEW DELHI: In a strategic move to fortify the developmental pipeline of national hockey, India today appointment of Australian high-performance specialist Tim White as the new Coach of the Indian junior women’s hockey Team. White, who recently made a significant impact as the chief coach of the Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons during the Hero Hockey India League (HIL) in January 2026, steps into the role with a clear mandate: to transform the nation’s brightest young talents into world-class international stars.
Tim White arrives in India with a formidable reputation built on a foundation of elite-level success in both Europe and Oceania. Most recently, he served as the Coach for the Belgium Under-21 Women’s Team, leading them to a prestigious Bronze Medal at the 2025 Junior World Cup held in December. His tenure with the Belgian national program is widely regarded as a period of unprecedented growth; between 2021 and 2024, he was a cornerstone of the coaching staff that propelled the Belgian Women’s Senior Team from a world ranking of #12 to a staggering #3, a journey that included a historic semi-final finish at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
White’s experience is not limited to the European circuit. Earlier in his career, he held the position of National Junior Coach for Australia, where he also secured a Bronze Medal at the Junior World Cup and oversaw high-performance pathways for Hockey Australia.
Reflecting on his new appointment, White noted that his recent stint in the HIL solidified his desire to work within the Indian ecosystem. “I was drawn back by the country’s incredible passion and rich hockey culture,” White stated. “Having coached against India at Junior World Cups, I’ve seen the immense raw talent here. The chance to work in a full-time program with such motivated athletes is a privilege. My goal is to produce technically sound players who are ready to bridge the gap and push for spots in the senior team.”
White’s coaching philosophy emphasizes tactical discipline balanced with traditional Indian flair. “I want to keep the game simple and focus on our collective strengths. We will aim to be a team that values attacking hockey but remains exceptionally disciplined in our defensive structures. Mastering core skills under pressure and playing ‘team-first’ hockey is vital,” he added, stressing the importance of physical conditioning to ensure the squad can maintain high-intensity performance for the full 60 minutes.
The appointment has been met with high praise from the Hockey India leadership. President Dr. Dilip Tirkey highlighted White’s knack for podium finishes, stating, “We are delighted to bring Tim White on board. His track record with the Belgian and Australian programs speaks for itself. His experience will be crucial in preparing our junior women for the rigors of senior international hockey.”
