VARUN KUMAR

Born on 25th July 1995, Punjab's Varun Kumar hails from hockey wise popular Mithapur, a hamlet near Jalandhar. Mithapur produced players of calibre like Padamshree Pargat Singh, Arjuna Manpreet Singh, present captain, and strikers Talwinder Singh and Mandeep Singh. Varun Kumar is latest from the hockey provenance. Varun is dreaded penalty corner striker and defender of the national team post 2016.

He played 2004 & 2005 Sultan of Johor Cup before playing in the 2015 Jr Asia Cup and gold winning Jr World Cup. He made his senior international debut in 2017. He was one of the rare players to figure in all major events of 2018 -- Champions Trophy, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, World Cup. Besides, he was part of the HWL R4 & Asia Cup teams, both in 2017. He was also part of the 2018 & 2019 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup teams.

Varun Kumar is going steady being part of the Pro-league teams. He has been playing for the Bharat Petroleum hockey team  since 2011.
