Born on 1st April 1947, midfield maestro Ajit Pal Singh belongs to the famous Sansarpur hockey nursery. Even as he was as young as 17, he was selected for the Indian national hockey team being a member of the successful All India Universities hockey team. He played three Olympics (1968, 1972, 1976); three World Cups (1971, 1973 & 1975); Asian Games (1970, 1974 & 1978). The living legend holds the unique record of only Indian captain to win the World Cup (1975). He represented Punjab in the Senior Nationals, both Punjab and Border Security Force in other domestic tournaments. Highly decorated and most popular of contemporary legends, Ajit Pal was awarded Arjuna in 1970 and Padamshree in 1992.
