Birendera Lakra is another gem of a player from the tribal heartland of India, Jharkhand. He is younger brother of national team centre-half Bimal Lakra. Their sister Asunta Lakra is also a centre-half, Women team captain for the Olympic Qualifier 2012.

Birender joined the Indian Airlines following the footsteps of Dilip Tirkey and others. He has been in and out of the senior team for quite some time now. He plays for Premier hockey League. He won the Silver at the 17th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup atIpoh in Malaysia.
