Indian hockey's jewel, Deepak Thakur, has been a great player, enthralling crowds world over. He has been recalled by coach Harendera Singh for the 2009 Argentina tour.

The Junior World Cup's gold medallist was not winning hearts of coaches after 2006 Commonwealth Games. However, coach Harendera Singh, invited him for the national camp in the late 2008. With this, Deepak's career took another turn towards national colours.

In the first test match against Argentina in his recall avtar, Deepal scored both the Indian goals for an impressive 2-1 victory at Mar del Plata. This must mark a new beginning for the lad from Himachal Pradesh.

In his debut Junior National Championship in 1995, when he was just 16, he scored 7 goals, two years later in the later in another Junior Nationals, his tally was 18.

After being a standbye for the 1999 Pakistan Test Series, he made his international debut under coach V. Baskaran for the South Africa tour.

Since then no stopping of the star from the hill state.
