Only second goalkeeper of India after Shankar Laxman in the 60s to lead India at Olympics, Sreejesh is a star from Kerala also won such laurels as Arjuna Award in 2015 and Padamshree in 2017.
PR SREEJESH was part of the Indian men's National hockey team that took part at the Olympics (2012 & 2016); World Cup THRICE (2010, 2014, 2018); Asian Games (2014, 2018); Commmonwealth Games (2014, 2018); Asia Cup (2013); Hockey World League Tier 4 (Finals) (2014, 2015), Hockey World League Tier 3 (Round 3) (2013, 2015) & Champions Trophy FOUR TIMES (2012, 2014, 2016,2018).
The lanky goalie also won the Hockey India's Player of the Year Award, and the newly instituted Dhruva Batra award during the Hockey India League 2015. With an Asian Games gold (2014) and Silver at both CWG (2014) & Champions Trophy (2016), Sree led emerging India at Rio, chosen ahead of Sardar Singh for the leadership. PR Sreejesh, like goalie Ashish Ballal in the 1988 Asian Games, helped India lift the first Asian Champions Trophy in Ordos with two crucial saves in the tie-break. His saves in the tie-break gave India the bronze at the Raipur HWL Finals in late 2015 The youngster from Kerala played a key role in India winning the 2010 World Cup opener against arch-rival Pakistan. With this the colt has announced his arrival on the big time hockey. He was taken in for the Ordos Asian Champions Trophy after Adrian D'Souza fell through with his strong views on contemporary hockey. So confident was the chief coach Jose Brasa that he fielded him for the 2010 Azlan Shah Cup final, ahead of experienced Bharat Chetri though rain washed out the final vs Korea. He played the 2005 Junior World Cup, where India narrowly missed the bronze. He made his Sr debut against France in 2004. He won the silver at the 2008 Azlan Shah Cup,gold two years later.
Sreejesh was made captain of the Indian team for the first time in 2016 Champions Trophy and then led India at Rio Olympics and the Jakarta Asian Games (2018). </blockquote)
