Indian Railways Rajinder Singh Sr. was a famous defender of the Indian national men's hockey team of the late 70s and early 90s. He was a penalty corner expert too, also top-scorer of the home world cup in 1981-82. He was part of the Indian team that won the gold at Moscow Olympics. He was awarded top sports award, Arjuna. Later, he took retirement from the Indian Railways, joined the Sports Authority of India. When he was posted at Delhi, he developed Union Academy School, located near the Shivaji Stadium, into a nursery. He was given charge of the Junior India coaching in 2001. That time India won its first-ever Junior World Cup at Hobart, Australia. Under his tutelage, Indian men won their first-ever Asia Cup too (2003). He was awarded Dronacharya for his services in the realm of coaching.
