Born on 12th July, Indian captain Surinder Kaur had been scoring machine in her decade long colourful career.

One of the finest sharp shooters in the circle, Haryana’s diminutive striker Surinder Kaur has been mainstay of national team for almost ten years in the 1990s. The star from the stable of Shahbad was the joint second top scorer at the World Cup (2006) in Madrid, though she played only in four matches due to injury.

Some of her career highlights include Gold at the Delhi Asia Cup (2004) and Silver at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games (2006). She top scored for Railways in many Senior Nationals. She can well be nicknamed ‘Top Scorer Girl’ of Indian women hockey, as it has become a habit.

With 13 goals, she was the over all second top scorer in the Asia Cup, Hong Kong, in 2007.

She led India to the title win at the Champions Challenge Cup II at Kazan June 2009, also was part of the silver winning Bangkok Asia Cup.

This leadership, her scoring prowess, and longevity stood her in good stead to be selected for prestigious Arjuna award in 2009.

She is now Dy.Superintendent of Police with Haryana Police, lives in Ambala town of Haryana.
