Baldev Singh is an one-man Army who single-handedly made a small town in Haryana state national fame. Born in Ludhiana, Baldev Singh Joined Sports Deptt of Haryana state. Its when he was posted at Shahbad Markanda, a town in Kurukshetra District in Haryana that he made the training centre a nursery of Indian women’s hockey.
The Shahbad Training Centre where he was the chief coach for his entire service about three decades, produced such stalwart women hockey players as Surinder Kaur, Jasjeet Kaur, Ritu Rani, Rani Rampal, all Indian captains for a considerable period, among others. The centre has approximately produced 45 international players, besides providing career avenues for another 50,60 players. Baldev Singh was also one of the coaches of Men’s National teams in the early 2000s.
Baldev Singh was awarded Govt. of India’s top coaching award, Dronocharya in 2009.
