I want to work for betterment of sports in Orissa: Dilip Tirkey
NEW DELHI: Former Hockey captain and ruling BJD’s Rajya Sabha nominee in Orissa, Dilip Tirkey wishes to work for the betterment of sports in the state.
“I am very happy that I got a chance to represent Orissa in Parliament. I always wanted to work for the betterment of sports and development of youth in my state,” Tirkey, who represented India in 1996 ( Atlanta), 2000 ( Sydney) and 2004 ( Athens) Olympic said.
Tirkey, who resigned from his post of Government Observer in Hockey India’s national selection committee and also relinquished his position as a manager in Air India, however, is not interested to be a part of active politics.
“Active politics is not for me. I am a sportsman. My focus is on social work and development of sports. I will always remain involved with Hockey,” said the ace full back.
Tirkey will file his nomination tomorrow while the elections for three seats in the state would take place on March 30.
