Karishma & Manjeet perform hat-tricks in Chandigarh big victory

SONEPAT, Oct 1: Manjeet Rawal and Karishma Singh scored eight goals each as Chandigarh raced to a 23-0 win against Assam in its opening Pool C league game in the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women National Championship at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai today. Karishma Singh secured a double-hat-trick while Manjeet Rawal notched up a hat-trick herself.

In a Pool A game, Mizoram beat Andhra Pradesh 2-1. Lalhlunmawii scored for Mizoram in the 35th and 63rd minute after Avani Nattha had put Andhra Pradesh ahead in the 13th minute.

In Pool G, Punjab registered a 2-1 victory over against SAI Bhopal 2-1. Punjab led 1-0 in the first half through a fourth-minute field goal by Anu Bala. SAI Bhopal leveled in the 45th minute through Pragya Mourya but eight minutes later Kulwinder Kaur scored the winning goal for Punjab. Uttarakhand beat Bengal 1-0 in another Pool G match.

In the last game of the day hosts Haryana beat Maharashtra 14-0. Navneet Kaur scored 6 and Jyoti Gupta scored 4 goals for the home team.

“Winning first game of the tournament will give confidence to my teammates and being hosts we were under pressure but we played well. We will keep this momentum in our next match to be played against Goa on October 2” said Navneet Kaur.

Pool C: Kerala 4 (Sooryalekshmi K.S 30, 42; Mathulya T 44; Suchithra C 69) beat Bihar 1 (Aprajita Singh 44). Chandigarh 23 (Manjeet Rawal 6, 36, 41, 42, 46, 46, 49, 51; Karishma Singh 9, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 28, 37; Saroj 56, 70, Hardeep Kaur 57, 64; Navpreet Kaur 58, 64; Manpreet Kaur 69; ) beat Assam 0.

Pool E: Haryana 14 (Navneet Kaur 4, 12, 21, 25, 29, 38; Jyoti Gupta 26, 29, 41, 57; Nicky 43; Udita 44; Navjot Kaur 54) beat Maharashtra 0.

Pool G: Punjab 2 (Anu Bala 4; Kulwinder Kaur 53) beat SAI Bhopal 1 (Pragya Mourya 45). Uttarakhand 1 (Kavita Bisht 1) beat Bengal 0.
