Susan shines in Rourkela’s scintillating Junior Nehru Cup win
Engineered by the energy and enterprise of captain Susan Toppo, who wove patterns around hapless Amritsar school, Rourkela based Birsa Munda Sr. Secondary School annexed the prestigious 41st Junior Nehru Cup here in Delhi.
Birsa Munda defeated Amritsar school team by a whopping margin of 7-1 at the Shivaji Stadium on Friday.
Captain himself struck goals in the first and 29th minutes, besides setting up many moves for others to move the scoreboard at a rate which rattled the Amritsar team.
It almost unbelievable that the same team struggled yesterday to come out of the tight defence of Delhi’s Guru Harkrishan Public School in the semifinal. Ultimately, it entered the final through a golden goal.
Today, the Orissa team played as if it forgot the other day, and each day is different.
For the crowd that turned up to watch an exciting hockey, the superiority of Rourkela team was a damphner, but it was not totally disappointed as Susan lit up the freshly laid turf with a great show.
Once the captain played a big hand in the team getting two goals within first five minutes, it has become apparent who will be winner.
Orissa based team struck goals in regular interval, in the 1st, 5th, 17th, 29th minutes to retire for half time, and then in the 51st, 59th and 61st minute.
The Amritsar team struck a solitary goal and it was in the 44th minute through Kawaljit Singh, who otherwise missed many sitters.
