Hero Hockey India League Trophy Unveiled in New Delhi
New Delhi, 13 January 2013: The Hero Hockey India League Trophy was today unveiled by Managing Director and CEO of Hero MotoCorp Ltd Mr. Pawan Munjal and Hockey India Secretary General & Chairman of Hero Hockey India League Dr. Narinder Batra at The Lalit in New Delhi.
On this occasion, Mr. Pawan Munjal announced the ‘Hero Player of the Tournament’ award of Rs. 25 lakh, which will be given to the best player of the Hero Hockey India League.
Dr Narinder Batra announced that the ‘Upcoming Player of the Tournament” will receive Gurdeep (Ponty) Singh Chaddha Award of Rs 20 Lakh.
There will also be a Fair Play Award.
In every match, the best goal scorer will receive “Hero Goal of the Match Award” of Rs 25,000.
The local franchise will be giving “The Man of the Match Award” and the winner will get Rs. 25,000.
To make the league more interesting, a special prize was announced for the spectators also. Five spectators will be chosen from the match and will be given a chance to participate in the Penalty Shoot-out against goalkeeper of the home team during the break to win Airtel Golden Goal Award of Rs. 10,000 each.
Mr. Pawan Munjal thanked the fans and media for their keen interest in the Hero Hockey India League and said: “Hero Hockey India League will surely bring Indian Hockey to world map and this initiative is a historical moment for all of us. I appreciate Hockey India for this initiative and the media for giving a good coverage to Indian hockey”.
Dr. Narinder Batra announced all the prizes and spoke about the trophy, “In the Hero Hockey India League trophy, a hockey player is emerging from the background. The Indian hockey is also emerging and is entering into a new phase.”
The opening match of the inaugural League will be played between Delhi Waveriders and Jaypee Punjab Warriors at 20:00 hrs on 14 January at MDC National Station in New Delhi. There will be a gala opening ceremony before the start of the first match at 19:00 hrs.
