Ashok Kumar’s wife, Kamal Ashok, 50, died suddenly in the wee hours of Wednesday, the 5th April, in New Delhi. It is gathered that entry of food particles in the wind pipe caused the sudden demise.

Her body was cremated at Lodhi Road Crematorium the same day evening. Relatives, hockey fraternity and media persons gathered in a large number. Those present include noted hockey players Harbinder Singh, his brother HJS Chimni, M.P.Ganesh, M.K.Kaushik, M.P. Singh, Jagbir Singh, Arvind Chhabra, Abdul Aziz, Virender Singh, Ajit Pal Singh. The photographer, Ashok Vahie, who shot their marriage was also present.

Ashok Kumar and Kamal’s love life knew no man made borders as both belong to different Faiths. In fact, her body was today taken to Gurudwara before cremated as per Hindu tradition.

Kamal is a regular in most of hockey gatherings and endeavoured everyone with her traditional warmth. She visited Jhansi, ancestral town of Ashok, last week and made plans for retired life. However, the fate willed differently.
