HHIL Match 15: Mumbai fails to win yet again
Mumbai Magicians failed yet again to post a win in the HIL 2014 after losing to Delhi 2-1 today in their fifth encounter. After today’s defeat at the hands of the hosts, the Mumbai team have only 6 points in their kitty with 4 losses and a draw. Delhi Waveriders on the other hand, are on top of the table with 24 points, after having played seven matches.
In the match No 15 played at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, Delhi was in an attacking mode right from the beginning. However, it had to wait for the second quarter for a goal. The goal came in the 20th minute when Akashdeep deflected a reverse flick of Llyod Norris Jones’s cross.
Despite attacking, Mumbai managed to score the equalizer only in the 48th minute when Glenn Turner’s rebound could not be intercepted by the goalie Nicolas Jacobi and found its way into the nets.
Ten minutes later, Delhi got a chance to take back the lead after they earned their first Penalty Corner. However, it got wasted as Rupinder’s flick went too wide for the cage.
Delhi continued with their attack and finally turned the game in their stride after Bharat Chikara was shown the yellow card for wrong tackling Surender Kumar.
Taking full advantage of the opposition team playing with a player less, Yuvraj Walmiki deflected a close angle cross from Andreas Mir Bel from the sideline.
After the match coach MK Kaushik said, “Though we have improved a lot since our first match, I believe that in today’s match, we missed more chances than Delhi. We were at fault in many areas. With 5 games left, we want to keep improving.”
