Times of India: All India inter-school U-17 hockey tournament at Kalmeshwar from December 20

NAGPUR: All India Inter-School U-17 Hockey Championship, organized by National Council for Sports and Youth Development, will be held from December 20 to 24 at Nagar Parishad ground, Kalmeshwar, around 25 kms from here.
Kalmeshwar will thus become the first town from the region to play host to a hockey tournament in which school teams from all over the country will be taking part. Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi, who represented Indian hockey team in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, will inaugurate the tournament.

Saoner MLA Sunil Kedar will be the special guest, while former city mayor Atal Bahadur Singh will be the guest of honour.

The five-day tourney will be held under the aegis of Hockey India. Sixteen school teams Swaminarayan School Nagpur, Dhruv Academy School, Ahmednagar, MY School Dahod Gujarat, Rani Rasmoni School Kolkata, SJS School Panipat Haryana, Guru Harkishan School Ganganagar Rajasthan, Sarvodaya School Sindewahi, Vidarbha, Vellamal Vidyashram, Chennai, SNBP School, Pune, School of Scholars, Akola, St Andrus School, Agra, Bal Bhavan School, Bhopal, Chand Bal Vikas, Panipat, Haryana, DR High School Nandurbar, Indira Priyadarshini School, Bhopal and Saify Urdu School, Amravati will compete for the top honours in the league-cum knock out competition.

An organizing committee, under the leadership of Suryaprakash Yadav, national president, National Council for Sports and Youth Development, has been formed for the smooth conduct of the tournament.

The participating teams will be divided in four groups and winners of each group will move into the semifinals. Tournament director, technical officials and umpires have been appointed by Hockey India. Daily six matches will be played from 8 am onwards. Glittering trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up teams. The lodging and boarding of all outstation teams will be provided by the organizing committee at Nagar Parishad School premises.
