The Hindu: Indian Navy in semifinals
Indian Navy ended its league engagement on a winning note, finishing on top of Group ‘A’ with a 5-2 victory over Central Secretariat to storm into the semifinals of the 11th Maharaja Ranjit Singh hockey tournament at the National Stadium here on Sunday.
Navy, which had already ensured a spot for itself in the knockouts, rode on Sujit Toppo’s brace.
In another match of the same group, Punjab National Bank thrashed Army Sports Centre (ASC), Bengaluru 8-1 to make the last- four stage. Sukhjeet starred for the bankmen with four goals while Gurjinder scored twice.
In Group ‘B’, Indian Air Force (IAF) advanced to the semifinals on better goal difference despite a 2-2 draw against Army XI. Damanjit scored both goals for IAF.
The fourth semifinalist will be decided on Monday.

Group ‘A’: Indian Navy 5 (Sujit Toppo 2, Mohit Thakur, S.S. Kindo, Amit Goswami) bt Central Secretariat 2 (Hassan Basha, Felix Baa).
Punjab National Bank 8 (Sukhjeet 4, Gurjinder 2, Sanjay, Bhagta) bt ASC 1 (Maheshwar Nag).
Group ‘B’: IAF 2 (Damanjit Singh 2) drew with Army XI 2 (Ignace Tirkey, Biraj Ekka).
