Chandigarh: With the Beijing Olympics turning into a no-entry zone for Indian hockey, four players of Indian origin have been picked in the Canadian hockey team for the mega event starting on August 8. The four players — Ranjeev Singh Deol, Ravi Singh Kahlon, Bindi Singh Kullar and Sukhwinder Singh — were part of the 18-member Canadian team, which was announced on Monday.

Canada’s best showing in the Olympics was 10th place finish that came on three occasions — in 1976, 1984 and 2000. They had failed to qualify for the 2004 Athens Games. Having qualified for the Beijing event, they are now hopeful of coming up with their best-ever performance. They are in Pool B and are pitted against Australia, Netherlands, Pakistan and Great Britain.
