Manuel Fredericks had won bronze in Munich Olympics
The house constructed by the State government for Olympian and veteran national hockey player Manuel Fredericks will be handed over to him on June 29.
An official press release here on Monday said that Industries and Sports Minister E.P. Jayarajan would hand over the key of the house constructed at Palliyamoola near Payyambalam here to Mr. Fredericks at a function at 5 p.m. on June 29. The house was constructed on a five-cent land allotted by the government, the release said adding that the construction was completed in 10 months.
A 101-member organising committee with District Collector T.V. Subhash as chairman was formed on Monday for organising the key-handover function.
The 72-year old veteran player had been the goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal in men’s hockey in the 1972 Munich Olympics. The only Keralite to win an Olympic medal, he was now living in a rented house in Bengaluru with his family.
