REACTING SHARPLY over the scuffle between the Pakistani and Indian players during their semifinal match at the 6th Men’s Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament here on Wednesday, the Pakistan Hockey Federation on Thursday sought a report from its chief coach Jahangir Butt.
Sources confirmed that PHF secretary Asif Bajwa called up the team coach Butt on Thursday afternoon and asked him to file a report on the incident.
“Yes, it’s true that Bajwa called him (Butt) up this afternoon and asked for a report immediately about the incident, in which one Pakistani player was made to sit out for at least 10 minutes,” sources said.
There were several queries on the same issue from the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) secretary general P Alagendra on Thursday afternoon just after the AHF meeting. He confirmed that no disciplinary action has been taken against the teams or players so far.
“It was the jurisdiction of the tournament director and according to him everything was under control,” Alagendra told journalists here. “According to the procedure, if any team wants, it can file an appeal to the tournament director. But as of now nothing has happened.” he said. India face South Korea for Asia Cup crown Defending champions India have not put a foot wrong so far in the tournament but they just cannot afford to lower their guard against the nimble-footed South Koreans in the final on Friday . The hosts are the only side in the eight-nation tournament to have maintained a clean slate, winning all four matches without any fuss, and need to stretch the winning streak by just another match to defend the title.
It has largely been a smooth ride for India who brushed aside Japan 2-0, tamed Malaysia 3-1, blanked Singapore 60 before edging out last edition’s runners-up Pakistan 3-1 in Wednesday’s violence-marred semi-final.
