Chennai: Rs 3,825. This is the amount available in the official bank account of the Tamil Nadu Hockey Association.

A Chelladurai Abdullah of Ramanathapuram, the treasurer of the association, has filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court, stating that in the only official bank account to his knowledge, the available balance was just Rs 3,825.52.

Accusing K Jothikumaran, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Hockey Association of misappropriation of funds, Chelladurai said the secretary had not submitted audited accounts of the association since 1993.

The statements of account obtained from the State Bank of India’s Egmore branch for the past one year revealed that various transactions involving several lakhs of rupees had taken place, but none of those transactions was ever communicated to Chelladurai, the suit said.

Chelladurai said he had lodged a complaint of misappropriation of funds against Jothikumaran. Based on the complaint, received on July 24, the Central Crime Branch in Chennai will register a case shortly, he said.

Noting that Jothikumaran had been unanimously removed as secretary of the association, the petitioner said a new set of office-bearers had already been selected at a special general body meeting in June. The resolution has been sent to the Indian Olympic Association for approval, he added.

Chelladurai wanted the court to direct Jothikumaran to submit audited accounts from 1993 onwards and to restrain him from acting as secretary of the association.
