Vivek is a youngster knocking the doors of national side. Though lean, he makes up with good athleticism on the field. He is from Uttar Pradesh, once considered a citadel of Indian hockey. He had his early hockey stints at the Sports Hostel, Lucknow, UP. Ever smiling Vivek had his senior baptism at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah tournament where nine youngsters made it to the senior grade. Silver at the first senior tour is an encouraging sign. His first national camp however was in 2006 (Doha Asian Games preparatory camp).

Like many of the stars of the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, his first tour abroad was to Germany where India played an 8-Nation Cup at Monchengladbach.
