Lucknow’s Amit Prabhakar rose from humble background to don the national colours. He made his senior international debut in the 19th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in May 2010 that took place after the Delhi World Cup. This honour he got within month after winning the silver in the South Asian Federation Games 2010, Olympian Gundeep Kumar being the coach for the SAF Games.
Chief Coach Jose Brasa gave him the break at senior level for the Azlan Shah Cup where he was played in most matches.
Amit learnt initial hockey at the Varanasi Hockey Academy, and then moved to Lucknow Sports Hostel.
He hails from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh district.
