Chandigarh: DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, comfortably beat Rock Rovers 3-1 in the final of the Chandigarh State Hockey Championship for junior boys (U-14) at Sector 18 Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

The final started at a slow pace but the match came alive in the 27th minute of the first half when Paramdeep drew first blood for DAV by successfully converting a penalty corner. DAV then added two more goals in quick succession to take an insurmountable lead. Showing good dribbling skills, Gurjinder Singh scored a fine field goal in the 46th minute to put DAV 2-0 up. Hardly had the cheers of DAV supporters died down when Yogesh Kumar completed the tally in the 47th minute by converting a penalty corner.

Narinder Singh of Rock Rovers reduced the margin in the 51st minute through a field goal. Thereafter Rock Rovers boys mounted pressure on the rival goal but could not add to their tally in spite of forcing eight penalty corners. DAV, who had a clear edge through out, earned 10 penalty corners and were able to convert only two. Veteran hockey Olympian Balbir Singh Sr gave away prizes to the winning team.
