This looks like a Chake De India effect, but in fact it is Dhyan Chand’s.
Another school in the golden city Amritsar takes up hockey.
Shri Ram Ashram Public School, Majitha Road, Amritsar, celebrated the Naitonal Sports Day on 29th August in the school campus in style. It has just introduced hockey to a set of its enthusiastic girl students. As one can make out from the image given in this article, the budding girls seem to take up the sport very seriously.
The school was of course motivated to take up hockey on the National Sports Day due to the tireless effort of Prof Paramjit SIngh Randhawa, a lecturer by profession and hockey enthusiast by obsession, who has been adovating the cause of hockey. He belives if hockey has to survive as a sport, the schools are the right place where it has to start the rebuilding process.
Accordingly to a press note by the School Principal Mz. Preeti Sharad, the school is committed to promote the game of hockey as it is, among other things, “our National Game”.
On the occasion of the celebration of Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary there in the campus, Prof. Randhwa spoke on Dhyan Chand’s exploits on the hockey fields and how the nation has remembered the legend.
It is interesting note here that Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New is named in his honour. Dhyan Chand’s birth day is celebrated as National Sports day. An award has also be constituted by the Government of India to honour outstanding sports persons of yore. This award is called Dhyan Chand Lifetime Sports Achievement Award. This year Punjab’s former hockey hero Mukhbain Singh received it at the hands President of India.
There is also a statue of the great Player Dhayan Chand at the entrance of Delhi’s historic National Stadium, which is of course named after him nowadays.
Stick2hockey.com is happyt to publish news of such nature where efforts are being made to nurture the sport of hockey at schools and colleges.
Hockey is in our soil .. in our hearts … it is the only sport india has dominated for years …
bt now every1’s attention has been dragged away from this beautiful game…
The problem lies for hockey in the fact that we have not been able to market it properly. Not a single advertising firm or company has shown interest in selling its products or marketing it using a hockey theme
only when ppl start taking interest in other sports will media coverage increase and then sponsor’s will step in…….nobody is stopping ppl from watching cricket but they should support other sports as well……
We shud not forget that Hockey is the only game which made us proud by winning 8 gold medals nd 6 out of them were won in a row in olympics
well, its nt only hockey tht we have to improve,
all other sports shud also b given as much importance as we are giving to cricket…
for e.g sports which are in olympics…The reason behind India’s poor performance in sports is due to the attitude of indians towards sports…we are not paying attention towards these games…
children should take interest in other sports also…every1 is just moving towards cricket…M not against cricket but there shud be a balance in all sports like other countries are having….This is there secret of success….those people are not after only one game, they pay attention towards all other activities and sports also….

Hockey is not only the game of men but also for women. SO why we indian girls are so afraid of playing hockey-The national game? We should see towards Australian and Netherland women hockey team who are playing it and are doing well in it.So the game that is our and we being Indians are not playing it. This is really shame on us that we have lost our interest for hockey and fame too.So if we will not step forward today we will never do it.Let’s play hockey and bring women hockey team to the top and make it a golden period. Our hands are not meant for doing household chores but it is also meant to pick the hockey stick and play for India and bring back the lost fame.Therfore, today we are given chance next time it may be we didn’t get it.So,come on and play for INDIA and let’s not waste this opportunity.
Women are treated as the second rate citizens as men’s hockey has got sponsership from Sahara, but women’s hockey in india are still treated as the second cousin. The team won the commonwealth gold in Manchester last year and recently won a tournament in Russia, but even then govt is not showing coordination. But i proudly want to say that women r were not less not less than men “THEY HAVE FIRE IN THEIR HEARTS AND ICE IN THIER VIENS”
