Bangalore: IWHF furious with Kaushik appointment

Bangalore: The Indian Women’s Hockey Federation is miffed at MK Kaushik’s appointment as the men’s team coach. Allegations of poaching are already doing the rounds with IWHF secretary Amrit Bose saying that the Indian Olympic Association’s ad-hoc committee lacked in ethics.

“Nothing has come to us in writing,” Bose told TOI. “No attempt was made by the committee to discuss the issue with us. After all, Kaushik was appointed national coach by us. We believe some amount of ethics and honesty would have cleared the air. Why did they have to go about it in such a fashion that we were left to gather information only from newspapers?”

According to Bose, Kaushik had met them a few days back to finalise the probables and the schedule for the camp beginning in Bangalore next week. “We were under the impression he would join the girls in Bangalore. We feel cheated now.”

The IWHF is slated to meet on September 20 in New Delhi to discuss the issue. While no serious action is possible in the absence of a legally-binding contract, a decision to end the Olympian’s association with women’s hockey might be arrived at during the meeting. The verdict will suit Kaushik just fine as he too is considering nipping his ties with the IWHF.
