The youngest member of the 2018 World Cup winning squad in Bhubaneswar, India, Arthur de Sloover has made rapid strides in the Red Lions shirt ever since he made his debut in 2017.
De Sloover, born on May 3, 1997, won the 2018 FIH Rising Star of the Year award and it underlined the defender’s talent and prowess he first displayed for Belgium in the 2016 Junior World in Lucknow where he collected a silver medal.
Picking up the stick at just four, De Sloover, who plays for R Beerschot Tennis Hockey Club, has been a relatively new incumbent in a hugely talented Belgium national squad.
After the winning the World Cup, he assisted the Red Lions to the EuroHockey Championship title at home in Antwerp in 2019 and could well be a key player in his country’s push for an Olympic gold medal at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
