Main attraction of the day: Motivational talk By Prof Randhawa to rekindle love for hockey amidst the younger lot.
‘All work and no play makes jack a dull boy’. There is truth in this proverb. Alpine public school highlighted this axiom in the morning assembly where Prof. Paramjeet Singh Randhawa, a hockey writer and buff, gave motivational speech.
He reminded the students of our former Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. His birthday is celebrated as the national sports day in India. He was a part of the gold winning India team in three Olympics, decorated with ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 1956. He was such a magician with stick that people actually refused to believe that they have seen such a great with their naked eyes. They broke his stick in Holland to check if there was a magnet inside and in Japan they thought there is glue in his stick.
Adolf Hitler even wanted to buy his hockey stick. In Vienna sports club there stands a statue of Major Dhyan Chand with four hands & four sticks, to tell the world unless one hs extra hands the type of game Dhyan Chand played was impossible.
He also added that as Indians if we respect our national anthem, national flag, and national language then we should make some efforts to promote our national game hockey also, in spite of other games. He appreciated ‘chhak de India’ movie for motivating efforts for hockey.
Principal Rajinder Kaur said that we would make all out efforts to join the movement to make our national game truly so.
She said that we have a big playground, all facilities and other equipments to start hockey in the school. Students were also encouraged and came forward to join this game. Teachers appreciated and motivated all students.
School director captain Ajit singh is also a great fan of hockey having a reasonable sports background. He was a swimmer. He also made a speech in which he asked the students to take up hockey in order to join the golden history of hockey, to their mite.
For the last ten days we have been reading stick2hockey very attentively beacuse a friend of mine from banglore who’s a stanch hockey lover, told me that schools in amritsar are taking up hockey. There is saying in hindi “Der se aaye par drust aaye”.If india respects national anthem,if indians respect national song,if our country respects national language HINDI then why don’t we all respect our national game. The other day i was reading an article on Major Dyan Chand who before his death felt sorry for the indians saying “when i’ll die the world will cry but india’s people will not shed a tear for me” Major Dhyan Chand’s once saying is proving hundreds of right. We have forgotten Dhyan Chand and we have forgotten oue national game HOCKEY.So,it is a very big thing that prof. paramjit singh randhawa from DAV College Amritsar is visiting convent schools daily to make students aware that we should love & respect our national game,he is also requesting school principles and teachers to introduce hockey.I think prof. paramjit singh randhawa is playing the role of “MASSIHA” of HOCKEY…LONG LIVE INDIAN HOCKEY.Come out of the grip of cricket that is to me not a game but a big circus, which has completly destroyed indian sports.WE ARE IN USA BUT WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT INDIA AND INDIAN SPORTS…..TEJBIR SINGH,FROM U.S.A
to me cricket is not a game .indeed it is a business .angreg to chale gaye hamara sports culture sirf cricket ban ke reh gya -cricket should never be included in olympic GAMES .PROTEST AGAINST IT ‘IT HAS DESTROYED HOCKEY IN INDIA .INDIN SCHOOLS SHOULD PROMOTE HOCKEY .RAJESH GUPTA JALLANDHAR CITY PUNJAB –
