New Delhi (PTI): Indian Olympic Association General Secretary Randhir Singh on Monday said the ad-hoc committee would look for another candidate to train men’s hockey team if women’s federation wanted to retain Maharaj Kishan Kaushik as their head coach.

Downplaying the controversial appointment of Kaushik as the coach of men’s team, Randhir said for them both men’s and women’s team were important and were part of the same Olympic family.

“For us, men’s and women’s hockey was part of the same Olympic family. They are our two wings. If women’s hockey wants to retain him (Kaushik), we’ve no problem,” Randhir told PTI.

“We would like to win Olympic gold medals in both the disciplines. We would definitely not like to go against their (women’s) interest,” he added.

Kaushik was last week named as the men’s team coach by IOA’s ad-hoc committee till the 2010 Asian Games but Indian Women’s Hockey Federation Secretary Amrit Bose termed the development ‘illegal’ as Kaushik was contracted with IWHF till 2012 London Olympics.

Kaushik later agreed to continue with the women’s team.
