After having shot to limelight after Chak De India, Mir Ranjan Negi continues to shine bright post his cutesy stint on a dance reality show. It was after the meteoric rise of Negi’s popularity that interest in hockey as a sport and also Negi’s interesting personal life grew manifold. To satiate this interest, Negi finally penned his autobiography, the reading of which took place on Wednesday evening amidst much fanfare. And doing the honours was none other than the ambassador of Indian Hockey , Suneil Shetty. Negi admitted to have turned “very emotional” on the occasion, as he said: “Life seems to have come a full circle; from a time I shone on the turf of hockey almost three decades back, to a phase of intense tribulations, to this day when I’ve regained the lost glory.” He also urged youngsters to veer once again to our national sport which he admitted has sadly got relegated to the backburner. Suneil, adding to Negi’s comment, remarked that hockey needs three things — monetary support, glamour and icons to emulate. Negi’s old colleagues like Ajit Pal Singh, Surendra Singh Sodhi, Jaffar Iqbal and Ashok Kumar (son of the legendary Dhyanchand) were seen sharing memories of the bygone era; while the Chak De girls were present to support their “dear sir” who they said “is someone we still turn to for any advice or even if we feel like having a heartfelt chat with someone. He’s a great teacher!” Satish Mathur, who shares a fond relation with Negi; Aadesh Srivastava, whose friendship with Negi ‘bhaiyya’ goes back 25 years when they both played hock ey as friends; Deepal Shaw and Meera were also present. Well, chak de is all we can say!
