Born on 1st Jan.1944, Punjab's Jagjit Singh was from popular Sansarpur. He played hockey for his cantonment school and then Lyallpur Khalsa college in Jalandhar. Jagjit played for Punjab Police, and then Border Security Force in the domestic circuit. He made his senior international debut with the tour of New Zealand, Malaysia and Hong Kong in 1964. Won gold at 1964 Olympics  and bronze at 1968 Olympics. He was awarded Arjuna in 1967 along with Mohinder Lal
