Amritsar city’s tryst with hockey continues unabated. Another reputed school joins the hockey fever that is fast catching up the schools domain.

Chief guest Prof Paramjeet Singh Randhawa expressed his valuable views regarding National game Hockey. By forcible speech, he has motivated and inspired the youngsters of Police DAV Public School, Police LInes, Amritsar. The has left everybody reflecting about our national game which is being neglected for want of name and fame.

He is campaigning for hockey promotion by visiting different schools of the city. He said that Hockey is not a game rather an Indian culture. It is a pity that young generation is familiar with cricket stars but are not much in the know of former hockey greats such as Dhyan Chand, his brother Roop Singh, Leslie Claudius, Balbir Singh etc etc. undefined

He said that Indian students are taught to respect their National language, National Anthem and national Flag but they are respect National Game hockey.

Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Chak De! India’ really rejuvenated the dying spirit of youngsters taking up the game. He urged the students and Educational Institutions to pledge to promote Hockey, to revive its golden heritage. He asked the authorities to hold quiz competitions, symposiums, poem recitals, debate competitions so that not only players but also other students also get inspired.

Ms. Promilla Kamal, the Principal, also a great admirer of hockey sport, assured the chief guest that she would leave no stone unturned for making hockey popular, providing attention worthy of the game.

Moreover Khaki (Police Department) and Hockey seem to be interlinked as the department has contributed to this game by patronizing it in a big way, giving its full support physically and financially. Some of the former legends of Indian hockey, like Sardar Balbir Singh Dosanj are from the ranks of state police.

Hockey has alwayz been a game of winners…it just needs some exploitation….CHAK DE india waz the only archieve which let people to give a thought to this endangered sport being on the side of extinction…Indian media was unable to see indian hockey wins. even a lost cricket match has full coverage in MEDIA but a great WIN of Hockey is lost somewhere.Whenever indian hockey wins something we don’t even know that it had won something and whenever it comes after loosing we blame hockey like anything…..To promote hockey there shud bemore hockey academies..with experienced coaches…HARVEER SINGH

the position of hockey in india is really vry drastic…Our national players of hockey are treating like laborers. They are not even paid 5% of what our cricketers get..We need management to put Hockey first on our agenda then think on the game of cricket.Hockey, if it gets half the attention that cricket does in our country it will do far better than cricket. There is a need to focus in this game because it is our national game. Our players are doing very well in hockey and their impact wining shows that they are far better then cricket players. If our government takes a careful look at this game then there is no doubt that our country would be known by this game apart form cricket.India was once a leader in hockey. Thanks to the crazy cricketers, hockey was side-lined. I wish hockey gains its due status in the sports field and give Indians a break from cricket.Give at least 10% of endorsement /cheering and they will bring our glorious years of hockey back.Lets hope for bright future for both men’s and women’s Indian hockey team! ChakDe India!!
