Bangalore: Indian Oil scored a narrow 3-2 victory over Namdharis in a Super Division hockey match that will be remembered more for the theatrics of Namdharis manager Didar Singh.
Indian Oil found the goals through Vikramkanth (17th minute), Prabhjot Singh (47th) and Deepak Thakur (58th) while Gurbaj Singh (44th) and Karmjet Singh (66th) found the net for Namdharis.
However, the match was reduced to a farce after Didar began questioning the decisions made by umpire Hardeep Singh, abused and even attempted to manhandle him, leading to a fracas in the middle. He was suspended for the remainder of the league by tournament director AB Palangappa. In the other matches, BPCL drubbed Canara Bank 4-1 thanks to a hattrick by Amar Aiyamma. The match, continued from where the two teams left off on Monday after heavy rain cried an early halt to the proceedings, saw Amar score in the 23rd, 51st and 65th minutes. Tushar Khandker had put the petroleum team ahead in the fourth minute.
