DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Punjab and Sind Bank, Delhi, made their intentions clear after beating Border Security Force Jalandhar 4-0 in the inaugural match of the Silver Jubilee edition of Surjeet Hockey Club at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar on Saturday .
Punjab and Sind Bank forged ahead in the 13th minute when Vikramjit Singh made no mistake in converting a penalty corner. Parminder Singh further enhanced the lead with a well-crafted goal in the 26th minute. Four minutes later, Daler Singh scored the three goals.
After changing ends, Punjab and Sind Bank rounded the tally with a brilliant goal by Ranjodh Singh in the 49th minute.
In the second match of Pool-A, Punjab Police Jalandhar and South Central Railways, Secunderabad, ended in a goal less draw. Both teams got one point each.
Earlier, Local Bodies Minister Punjab Manoranjan Kalia inaugurated the tournament. Kalia announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the Surjit Hockey Society.
