TNHA mess gets murkier

Chennai: It’s anarchy in the Tamil Nadu hockey circles these days. Two different bodies, claiming themselves to be the state association, are claiming to run the show.

A Chelladurai Abdullah, secretary of one of the two TNHA bodies, in a press release on Tuesday, said that in an official meeting at Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), member secretary MR Mohani decided to conduct the SDAT-TNHA
hockey tournament only under the name of SDAT. When contacted Mohani said: “SDAT had not taken the final decision on it”. Last week, the IOA had written to the TNOA asking them “not to encourage any activities (related to hockey ) of either of the groups”, but the two bodies are in no mood to relent.

It was learnt that former IHF secretary K Jothikumaran held a ‘secret’ meeting of the other body on Oct 19, while rival Abdullah has convened an executive members meeting in Madurai on Oct 25.
