Not considered surprisingly for the 2002 World Cup, despite a regular in all Indian assignments in the preceding two years including 2000 Sydney Olympics. Returned to national side under coach Rajinder Singh Sr in May 2002 Australia tour. Scored some spectacular goals in India’s title victories in 2003 Asia Cup and Afro-Asian Games.
Struck bad batch at Athens Olympics in the initial stages, which cost his slot in the team subsequently. Returned to lead India at the home Champions Trophy (2005) only to be dropped for next two assignments in 2006. Recalled coach V. Baskaran restored him in the team in May 2006. He played his first World Cup in Germany in 2006.
He Played for Bharat Petroleum before joining Punjap Police after leading India to its first Junior World Cup. He was not in the Indian team after the Doha Asian Games. Leads Shaer-e-Jalandhar in PHL. Nowadays he is working as Deputy Superintendent of Police with Punjab Police Department. Last International Appearance: 2006 World Cup
