Chennai: Vidya Stokes, the official candidate of the Asian Hockey Federation for the post of vice-president in the International Hockey Federation, lost to Singapore’s Annabel Dillon, who retained the position with a comfortable majority at the FIH Congress in Los Angeles on Saturday.
It is learnt that Ms. Stokes, the vice-president of AHF and the president of the Indian Women’s Hockey Federation, secured only 17 votes against 71 by Ms. Dillon with one abstention.
“I believe that it was the support of the global FIH community, including some members from Asia, which saw me through very comfortably.
Very encouraging
This for me is very encouraging to receive worldwide endorsement because that gives me the solid mandate to continue in my role as vice-president, for the next four years serving the international hockey community and the interests of hockey globally” observed Ms. Dillon in a communication to The Hindu.
Stephan Abel (Germany), Jan Albers (Netherlands, Anne Ellis (Wales), Renita Garrard (Australia) and Sue Neill (Canada) were elected as members of the Executive Board.
