Punjab & Sind Bank register win in Beighton Cup

KOLKATA: Riding on Rajbinder Singh’s twin strikes, the Punjab and Sind Bank defeated Tamil Nadu XI 2-1 in the quarter-final league match of 113th
All-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament at SAI Eastern India Sport Complex on Saturday.

P&S Banks’s Rajbinder, who helped his side surge ahead in 20th minute, stole the limelight with his skillful show throughout the match.

Rajbinder netted his second goal after the Tamil Nadu team produced the equaliser in 40th minute of the match.

In another match, tournament favourites Indian Oil were held to a 1-1 draw by Punjab SC.

Hamza Muztada gave Indian Oil the lead early in the fifth minute, but the score was equalised by Prem Kumar of Punjab SC in 47th minute.

Meanwhile, Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Ltd rode on a solitary goal by Sunil Kujur to pip Eastern Railway Sports Association 1-0.
