NEW DELHI: It could finally boil down to money. International Hockey Federation’s master coach, Jose Brasa, a candidate for Indian hockey team’s coac
h’s post, seems to have impressed all with his vision to revive Indian hockey on Thursday.
Brasa, a Spaniard, gave a detailed presentation to sports ministry officials as well as the members of the technical committee of the ad-hoc committee about the problems the game is facing in the country and also the remedies.
Sources said that though there are three candidates in the fray, the sports ministry has to decided whether to appoint Brasa or ask others for presentations. “He made a very detailed and impressive presentation. Now it all depends on how much he wants as compensation. The future course of action depends on his terms and conditions which he is expected to put before us tomorrow,” a source told TOI.
It may be too early to say when the ministry is going to appoint the new coach, but sources confirmed that once it’s done the current coach-in-charge Harendra Singh would remain a part of the coaching staff.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Singh, captain of the Indian team touring Argentina for a four-test series, said the team does not need a foreign coach. “In my opinion a foreign coach is not needed. As far as players are concerned, Harendra Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Romeo James are doing a good job and they are taking the team forward,” Sandeep told a news agency.
