Ad-hoc Committee gets the taste of, behold, Income Tax
Indian Olympic Association’s Adhoc Committee on hockey might not have singe source of income other than the government, but it seems, the Income Tax Department is least bothered about it. It has some other concerns. The Department has slapped a whopping Rs. 1.5 cr penalty to the adhoc body for the period in which it was not even in existence.
According to a social activist who got information through Right to Information Act (RTI) from the Income Tax Department, the adhoc body located in the Qutab area of Delhi has been asked to pay this penalty on account of ‘default’ in its annual reports pertaining to past years, probably assessment year 2005-2006.
It is interesting to note that the Adhoc Committee came into being only last year, but still has been served with the penalty notice. Sources in the Adhoc Committee confirmed they have filed an appeal in the appropriate forum. Pending the disposal of the appeal, no worries as of now for the adhoc body.
It seems a query was originally sent to the office of the ‘IHF’ still run by the a ‘disgraced’ faction. They have smartly informed the Department about the adhoc committee as the present authority looking after hockey. As a result, the notice has landed up in the adhoc committee’s doors.
Interestingly, the same people claim in the courts they are the legitimate body — and even orgnanized a broken zonal competition recently to prove their legitimacy. When the question of penatly comes they direct it to the adhoc body! What a logic!!, what a survival instinct.
