Team India moving in right direction: Dhyanchand
Bhopal, Apr 12 (UNI) Expressing happiness over Team India’s victory in Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament in Malaysia, Ashok Dhyanchand, son of hockey wizard Major Dhyanchand, today said the team is heading in the right direction.
”Team India’s victory is result of team effort. Toiling sweat at the Goregaon sub-centre of the Bhopal Hockey Association by players led by captain Sandeep Singh along with chief coach incharge Harendra Singh and assistant coaches James Mario and Ramandeep Singh has borne result,” Indian Hockey Adhoc Federation’s Selection Committee member Ashok told UNI.
He said transparent selection policy of IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, who is also Chairman of the ad-hoc committee, and selection committee Chairman Ajit Pal Singh had infused fresh enthusiasm among players.
Ashok said the victory would provide necessary boost to the team for future tournaments. Crushing hosts by 3-1 was result of silent efforts.
This would prove to be the first step towards golden age of hockey team.
Pointing out that Indian hockey team met its nadir due to internal politics in the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), he said office bearers should give up craving for post and collectively work to uplift the national sport.
Meanwhile, Goregaon sub-centre director R K Naidu expressed happiness over the victory.
Chance of victory had appeared pretty strong in view of hardwork put in by Indian team he added.
Naidu said chief coach in-charge Harendra Singh has written a letter to the Sports Ministry praising practice facilities at the centre including floodlight, Astroturf ground, gymnasium and high-quality food.
