NEW DELHI: Hockey India (HI) on Thursday announced the fresh selection trials for a national camp of under-18 players at the Sports Authority of India centre in Bhopal on September 19 and 20 after the previous camp was suspended due to overage problems.
HI was earlier forced to suspend the national camp, scheduled to start from September 5, after medical tests revealed that a majority of 55 selected under-18 probables were overage.
The camp had been called to pick the national team for the junior (U-18) Asia Cup to be held in Yangon, Myanmar from November 14-22.
“Hockey India has taken a very strong stand on this and has warned the academies and institutions concerned of strict future action against the concerned players, their academies and coaches,” the federation said in a statement.
“The decision for appropriate action against the erring probables of the suspended camp shall be taken soon.”
HI also said that all the academies have already been directed to send the eligible probables along with their age identification medical test reports done by digital X-Ray units at Radiological Centres.
“The shortlisted players after the selection trials will again undergo medical examination at Bhopal and if found overage shall face a ban and a fine of Rs five thousand per defaulter shall be slapped on their academy,” the statement read.
