Mumbai Customs over came Mumbai Port Trust by 2-0 margin for their first victory in the ongoing Super League played at the MHA Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate. Without bench strength fielding exact 11 players and pitted against cellar side M.P.T. At lemon break Customs were up by a slender margin of 1-0.
Customs displayed with plan having limited option they started on offensive mode, pressing hard from the word ‘go’. Customs came close for scoring striker Neeraj yadav solo run from the axis and reverse hit towards the box M.P.T keeper timely save by diving to the right, soon after back to back tries just going abortive due to lack of finish while M.P.T were not behind striker Mumtaz Ahmed missing a sitter at the goalmouth pushing the ball into onrushing Customs keeper Lincoln Taites in the 13th minutes. However Customs were successful in getting the much needed lead in the 24th minutes. Savio Nayak passes from the axis well stationed Momo slammed into the wooden cage 1-0. Momo could have added the 2nd goal similarly but it kissed the bar and went out soon after.
After resumption Customs who were running out of steam due to minus bench power kept their cools and showed down their pace. M.P.T failing to cash in this advantage work hard but Customs keeper Lincoln Taites stood like a rock in between to deny any success to M.P.T what so ever once again Customs accelerated their lead to M.P.T surprise Momo reverse hit from the spot sailed into the nets his brace and his side’s 2nd goal ( 65th minutes ) { 2-0 } Customs by today’s win salvage some pride having played 6 matches ( 1 win , 1 draw and 4 loss ) garnered 4 points while M.P.T too have played 6 outings have accumulated one point only.
In an earlier match played between BEG ‘B’ registered their 2nd win by getting the better of Companeroes S/C by slender margin of 1-0. The all important goal was scored in the second session of play time through a stroke converted by Sem Kandulna ( 44th minutes ) 1-0 after Companeroes S/C defender Savio Fernandes foot got struck on the goal line during penalty corner conversion indirect shot taken by Sanjay Purthy. For Companeroes today’s results being the first set back in their opening tie at least they could have drawn but their strikers especially Dudley Drego rued many chances.
