Friday, October 30, 2009: Mumbai Port Trust ( M.P.T) completed their league engagements of the season on draw against M.S.Police while former champions Western Railway over came R.C.F by 2-0 margin in the MHA League matches held at Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate.
M.P.T playing their last League outing today displayed superbly to hold Maharashtra State Police ( M.S.Police ) goalless (0-0) In this battle of minnows M.S.Police looked more formidable side while M.P.T nothing much to lose also displayed fine field hockey. Both the sides had equal chances to score but none of them could disturb the scorers nor during lemon break or in regulation period. M.S.Police earned 5 penalty corner compared to M.P.T 1 penalty corner neither were utilized by either sides M.P.T have garnered 5 points from 10 matches. M.S.Police have accumulated 4 points from 6 matches played so far and 4 matches still in hand.
Former champions Western Rly after humiliating loss to lowly placed M.P.T the other day, today pitted against youthful RCF. The railmens upgraded their attacks but not getting the inroads as expected however railmen shot up to the lead in the 22nd minutes against the run of play Jayesh jadhav’s superb pass inside the semi circle Hardeep Singh tapped in from close range 1-0 RCF who had outstanding run in previous outings tried hard to match their fancied rivals W.Rly but not getting innovative moves upfront. After change of ends youthful RCF improvised their tactics, pressing hard but their strikers lack the finish W.Rly playing waiting game RCF skipper Mahesh Bagade twice missed golden chance at the spot brilliant bisecting balls from the far axis long range, however W.Rly doubled the lead K.M.Chineppa banged from acute angle a diagonal pass by Chandrakesh Kumar on the run ( 57th minutes ) 2-0.
