Tiny she may be but Maria Jose Granatto is a bundle of energy laden with electrifying skills in the Argentine forward line.
Just five feet one inches tall, the 26-year-old is a key to Las Leonas’ bid to stride the podium in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, even perhaps winning the elusive gold medal.
Voted FIH Rising Star for 2016 and 2017, Granatto tasted success with her country’s junior team which clinched the 2016 U-21 World Cup in Santiago, Chile.
Closing in on 100 internationals, she has scored more than 60 goals and her exploits have helped Argentina win gold at the 2016 Champions Trophy and the Pan American Games and Cup competitions (2017 and 2019 respectively).
Granatto, whose older sister Victoria has also a Las Leonas member, plays for HC Oranje Rood in the Netherlands and started off playing for Club Santa Barbara at home.
