Harmanpreet’s drag-flicking prowess has been a key factor in India’s bronze medal-winning campaign.

The sturdy defender reflected on what achieving a podium meant after a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Germany for the prize.

“Our hard work paid off,” he said. “To win an Olympic medal after so long was reward for the faith and belief people placed in us.”

Harmanpreet said it was tough after losing the semi-final to Belgium. “We resolved to do our best and it was a team effort,” he said.

About the fightback from 1-3 down against a formidable team such as Germany, Harmanpreet said, “We have the mindset to not lose sight of our game, remembering what was said at our team meetings, applying pressure on the ball and running with your man. That helped.”
